CONTEXT OF THE JOB
The COBRE in Cardiovascular Health is seeking a Research Nurse to support several investigations related to cardiovascular health in children through seniors. The Research Nurse will provide nursing support and assist in the coordination of COBRE related clinical research projects by performing/assisting with medical testing/procedures as required by the research protocols.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtains specific knowledge of each protocol and study design, IRB status, expectations of participants, requirements of the study nurse, and safety considerations.
- Meets regularly with Director of the COBRE Research Core and other Core staff to ensure on-going compliance with protocol.
- Schedules and/or performs health related procedures and testing as needed such as drawing blood, IV insertion, taking blood pressure reading, administering medications, and other procedures as needed. Willingness to learn new procedures required for human research.
- Assess participants during research visit, determining if patient is experiencing side effects or other problems; notifies PI of study if problems arise. Provides health care information to the participants as needed.
- Reviews medical records of study participants or possible participants to obtain relevant data.
- Completes case report forms for each study participant and documents research and related data in the patient record as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a State Board of Nursing approved school of nursing AND a minimum of one to two years of professional nursing experience. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Delaware. 1-2 years nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred. CCRP certification preferred.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of nursing care.
- Knowledge of ethical requirements of research
- Skill in both verbal and written communication.
- Skill in medical assessment techniques particularly IV insertion.
- Skill in maintaining detailed records
- Knowledge of the research process and human subject issues
Special Requirements:
- Completion of Human subjects training
