CONTEXT OF THE JOB: The National Institutes of Health Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (NIH COBRE) program has funded a multi-year, $12 million program entitled The Delaware Center for Musculoskeletal Research (DCMR). The Center seeks to develop and enhance UDs research infrastructure associated with the field of musculoskeletal biomedical research. The center is seeking to hire a highly motivated Histology Technician. The Histology Technician will be a member of the Research Core working with Co-Directors and a Lead Scientist to serve the DCMR community and other users. The ideal candidate will provide expertise and service on histological and histomorphometric assays of musculoskeletal tissues.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Setup/manage DCMR Histology Laboratory.
- Operate and maintain the standard and the state-of-art instruments.
- Provide consultation and support protocol development.
- Provide full service and/or user training on the following:
- Paraffin processing, embedding, and sectioning.
- Plastic/resin processing, embedding, and sectioning.
- Frozen sample processing, embedding, and sectioning.
- Routine histochemical staining and immunofluorescence.
- Wide-field and fluorescence imaging.
- Manage and track projects through software solutions (such as iLab).
- Work with Co-Directors and Lead Scientist to identify new equipment and/or capability needs to enhance the Center.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree and three years experience, including a one-year clinical internship or completion of a multi-year training program in a histopathology laboratory, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience on musculoskeletal tissue is preferred.
- Certification from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited program.
- Strong technical skills on histology.
- Prior experience on laboratory management and equipment maintenance.
- Effective oral and written communication and organizational skills.
